To teach and support curriculum development at a university for one semester or one academic year

Applicant profile

Colombians who wish to pursue academic studies in the United States in the areas of Cultural Anthropology and Indigenous Communities and the Environment.

  • For Cultural Anthropology, we are looking for individuals with a PhD in Anthropology, with experience in social or cultural anthropology, specializing in the experiences of Afro- descendant communities in Latin America and in social and historical processes related to racial classification and identification.
  • For Indigenous Communities and Environment, individuals with a master’s or PhD in Latin American indigenous languages, cultures, or literature are invited to apply.

The program offers the opportunity to strengthen research, generate relevant knowledge, and promote intercultural understanding through academic collaboration.

Description of the exchange

The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (S-I-R) Program allows higher education institutions in the United States to host international scholars for a semester or academic year to teach undergraduate courses, support curriculum development, give lectures, and participate in community activities.

Those selected will have the opportunity to interact with the university and local community, promoting academic and cultural exchange.

Requirements

To apply for this call, please read the Terms of Reference carefully, where you will find the specific requirements. In addition, the following documents are required:

  • Project Proposal
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Course Syllabi
  • Citizenship ID card
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Letter of institutional support
  • Passport – biodata page
  • Certification of English proficiency

As part of their commitment to the country, those awarded must return to Colombia at the end of their fellowship and remain in the country for at least 2 years to apply and share the knowledge they have acquired. This requirement is in line with the immigration regulations of the U.S. Department of State, according to the visa granted.

This program is funded by the U.S. Department of State, as specified in the Terms of Reference, which include:

  • Subsistence allowance
  • Support for professional development
  • Support for accommodation expenses
  • Allowance for luggage
  • Transportation allowance
  • Supplementary grant for Scholar-in-Residence
  • International airfare
  • Monthly allowance for certified dependent relatives
  • Basic accident and illness insurance with minimum coverage (ASPE)
  • Visa costs and proceedings

Note: Any aspect not mentioned within these benefits is not covered by the program.
