J. William Fulbright Program

Master’s degrees in the United States for Colombians beginning their studies in the second semester of 2026.

Applicant profile

The call for applications is addressed to Colombian citizens who have a professional degree and at least one year of work experience, interested in pursuing master’s studies at institutions of higher education in the United States, starting in the second semester of 2026. The program seeks to identify candidates with a history of academic excellence, high leadership potential, and the ability to generate a positive impact in their professional and social environments.

Description of the exchange

This program offers the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in the United States with the support of the Fulbright Commission Colombia. Up to five candidates with proven academic excellence and leadership skills will be selected with the aim of promoting their academic training and professional development.

This call is open to the following topic priority areas:

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Data Science and Technology
  2. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
  3. Land use planning and water management.
  4. Food security and biotechnology.
  5. Entrepreneurship, business, and international outreach.
  6. Security and peace.
  7. Fight against drugs.

Requirements

To apply for this call, please read the Terms of Reference carefully, where you will find the specific requirements. In addition, the following documents are required:

  • Study/Research Objectives Essay
  • Personal Statement essay
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Citizenship ID card
  • Transcript of degrees achieved, showing a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.0 out of 5.0 in each of the studies completed.
  • Current results of English exams recognized by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Namely: TOEFL iBT: overall score of 85. Academic IELTS: overall score of 7.0. TOEFL ITP 4 skills: overall score of 600 plus speaking score with an overall result of B2.
  • Diplomas or degree certificates, certifying a minimum of one (1) year of professional experience.
  • Three professional and/or academic letters of recommendation.

As part of their commitment to the country, those awarded must return to Colombia at the end of their master’s degree and remain in the country for at least 2 years to apply and share the knowledge they have acquired. This requirement is in line with the immigration regulations of the U.S. Department of State, according to the visa granted.

Those awarded will receive comprehensive support for their master’s degree program, as specified in the Terms of Reference, which include:

  • Application fees for universities in the United States.
  • Financial support for monthly living expenses.
  • Support for university costs.
  • Airfare between Colombia and the United States.
  • Cost and processing of J-1 visa.
  • Academic counseling for the application process, including: Counseling and placement services and profile enhancement.
  • Tuition exemption management.
  • Comprehensive support and continuous monitoring throughout the program.

Step by step

To apply for this call for applications, interested parties must follow these steps:

  1. Consult the Terms of Reference and its annexes for details of the call for applications.
  2. Register on the Fulbright Colombia Application Platform and complete the registration form. This form will be enabled once you have registered on the platform; if you already have an account on the platform, you can use it to apply for this call.
  • Call for applications opens: May 2, 2025.
  1. Prepare the documentation described in the Requirements and Terms of Reference, ensuring that you comply with each one.
  2. Complete the application and submit it through our Application Platform before the call closes.
  • Call closes: June 24, 2025, at 12:00 noon (Colombia time).
