J. William Fulbright Program

Master’s degrees in the United States for Colombians beginning their studies in the second semester of 2027

Applicant profile

The call for applications is aimed at Colombian citizens with a professional degree and at least one (1) year of professional experience who are interested in pursuing a master’s degree at a higher education institution in the United States starting in the second semester of 2027.

We are looking for candidates with proven academic excellence, high leadership potential, and the ability to make a positive impact in their professional and social environments.

Program description

This program offers the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in the United States with the support of the Fulbright Commission Colombia. Up to two (2) candidates with proven academic excellence and leadership skills will be selected, with the aim of strengthening their education and enhancing their professional development.

The call prioritizes the following thematic areas:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Technology, and Data Science
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics)
  • Land use planning and water management
    Food security and biotechnology
  • Entrepreneurship, business, and internationalization
  • Security and peace
  • Fight against drugs

Requirements

Interested parties should consult the Terms of Reference for specific requirements. In addition, they must submit the following documents:

  • Study/Research Objectives Essay
  • Personal Statement essay
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Citizenship ID card
  • Transcripts with a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.0 out of 5.0 in each program completed
  • Current results of English exams recognized by the CEFR:
    • TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 85
  • Diplomas or degree certificates
  • Certification attesting to at least one (1) year of professional experience
  • Three (3) professional and/or academic letters of recommendation

As part of their commitment to the country, those selected must return to Colombia at the end of their master’s degree and reside in the country for at least two (2) cumulative years, applying and sharing the knowledge they have acquired. This requirement is in line with the immigration regulations of the U.S. Department of State, in accordance with the visa granted.

NOTE: To obtain a 5% discount on the TOEFL IBT exam, applicants can enter the code BECATOEFLiBT2026 on the Fulbright Friends Foundation website.

Step by step

  1. Consult the Terms of Reference and its annexes.
  2. Register on the Fulbright Colombia Application Platform and complete the corresponding form (if you already have a user account, you can use the same one).
  3. Prepare the required documentation, verifying compliance with all requirements.
  4. Complete and submit the application via the Platform before May 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Colombia time) .
