From the Amazon to the Caribbean, passing through the Andean, Pacific, and Orinoquía regions, the results of the J. William Fulbright Program 2025, Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program 2025, and Symposia by Fulbright 2025 calls for applications affirm that Colombian talent promotes new avenues for exchange, cooperation, and leadership in the United States.

“Colombia’s regions are also Colombia’s prospects. Each department contributes its own questions and solutions to the country’s challenges; that is why celebrating these results is, above all, celebrating the voice of the territories in high-level academic and professional settings,” said the Fulbright Commission Colombia.

Two calls, one purpose: leadership and public service

  • J. William Fulbright Program 2025: Master’s degrees at prestigious US universities for Colombian professionals, with comprehensive support and a focus on academic excellence and impact for the country. https://bit.ly/JWFulbrightProgram2025
  • Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program – Cohort 2026: a year of training and professional practice not leading to a degree, focused on strengthening leadership skills and public service, with professional internships and networking opportunities in the United States. https://bit.ly/HHHFellowshipProgram2025

Regionalism at the center

Those selected and recommended in both calls for applications come from multiple regions of the country and work in key sectors for development—from public policy, education, and health to technology, the environment, security, justice, and the creative economy—reaffirming Fulbright’s role as a platform for social mobility and professional advancement for talented individuals with a vocation for local and national impact.

Symposia by Fulbright 2025–2026: academic cooperation with a regional focus

A few days ago, the Fulbright Commission Colombia, together with the U.S. Embassy, announced the winning proposals for Symposia by Fulbright, selected for their quality, relevance, and ability to bring together consortia between institutions in Colombia and the United States. The initiatives will promote academic exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue in science, technology, sustainability, and innovation. Selected projects:

  • Proposal: “Data Science and Education: Global Perspectives,” from the consortium comprising Universidad del Norte, Universidad de Magdalena, and STEM Academia.
  • Proposal: “Designing Medical AI with and for People,” from the consortium comprising Johns Hopkins University, Universidad de los Andes, and Fundación Santa Fe.
  • Proposal entitled “Water and Territory: Governance and Water Justice” from the consortium comprising the Technological University of Chocó, El Bosque University, Industrial University of Santander, and Agrosavia.
  • Proposal: “Batteries technological opportunities and experiences,” from the consortium composed of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Colegio Mayor Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Universidad de Antioquia, Tronex – Empresa, Tecnova – Innovation Network in Medellín, Connect – Innovation Network in Bogotá.
  • Proposal: “Challenges Facing Coastal Cities in the Face of Climate Change,” from the consortium comprising the Bolívar Technological University (Institute for Development, Economics, and Sustainability Studies – IDEEAS and School of Engineering, Architecture, and Design) Cartagena, Cartagena Social Group Foundation, and Cartagena District Mayor’s Office (District Planning Secretariat).

At the regional level. The composition of the consortiums reflects participation from the Caribbean (Universidad del Norte, Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar, Universidad del Magdalena), the Pacific (Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó), and the Andes (Universidad Industrial de Santander, Universidad de Antioquia, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad del Rosario), together with innovation hubs in Medellín and Bogotá; a network that amplifies voices and knowledge from the territories to international stages.

Impact and return approach

Beyond international experience, the three programs—master’s degrees with JWF, public leadership with Humphrey, and academic meetings with Symposia—encourage participants to transform their learning into solutions for their communities upon returning to Colombia: applied research, public policy projects, educational innovation, and university-business-government partnerships that respond to regional priorities.
