Symposia by Fulbright tours the country
As part of the 2026 cohort of Symposia by Fulbright, the first academic meeting of the year arrives in Cartagena: “Challenges and Opportunities for Coastal Cities,” a space for interdisciplinary dialogue that will bring together national and international experts to reflect on the future of coastal territories.

The event will take place on February 19 and 20 at the Bolívar University of Technology, Casa Lemaitre campus, in the Manga neighborhood of the Bolívar capital. Admission is free with prior registration through THIS LINK.

This symposium is organized by a consortium comprising the Bolívar Technological University (Institute for Development, Economics, and Sustainability Studies – IDEEAS and School of Engineering, Architecture, and Design), the Planning Secretariat of the Mayor’s Office of Cartagena, the Pontifical Xavierian University of Bogotá, and the Social Group Foundation. This is the first of five meetings that, throughout 2026, will promote academic exchange, scientific cooperation, and inter-institutional collaboration on strategic issues such as science, technology, development, and innovation.
During the conference, experts from the United States, as well as national researchers and local stakeholders, will discuss urban aquatic ecosystems, development opportunities, and public policies for Cartagena, with a special focus on the Ciénaga de la Virgen. Meet the speakers on our Instagram:

What is Symposia by Fulbright?
As part of “Freedom 250,” the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America, Symposia by Fulbright is an initiative of the Fulbright Commission Colombia that promotes academic exchange and scientific collaboration between Colombia and the United States.
Through symposiums led by interinstitutional consortia, researchers, and former Fulbright scholars, the program strengthens interdisciplinary dialogue in strategic areas such as science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development. It also provides financial and logistical support for the implementation of each proposal selected in its call for proposals, fostering lasting partnerships and knowledge networks between both countries.

We will soon announce the academic agenda for the following events of the 2026 cohort of symposia by Fulbright:
- “Data Science and Education: Global Perspectives”: March 17 in Barranquilla
- “Water and territory: governance and water justice”: March 17 in Bogotá
- “Batteries: technological opportunities and experiences”: April 19 in Medellín
- “Designing medical AI with and for people” May 7 in Bogotá
We invite the academic community, public and private institutions, and interested citizens to follow our official channels to learn more and join this transformative knowledge network that strengthens collaboration between Colombia and the United States.
