Fulbright Scholar Appointed Judge

As a result of the merit-based competitive examination under Call for Applications No. 27 of the Judicial Branch, the Supreme Court of Justice recently swore in Diego Fernando Ramírez Sierra as a judge of the Civil–Family Division of the Superior Court of the Judicial District of Bucaramanga.

In 2022, Ramírez was awarded the Fulbright Visiting Student Researcher Fellowship, which enabled him to undertake an academic fellowship at Fordham University (U.S.) to strengthen his expertise in tort law (law of damages and civil liability). Following this experience, he returned to Colombia with the goal of applying for higher-level positions in the administration of justice.

In his role as a judge, he will be responsible for ruling on appeals in civil and family cases originating from district courts, as well as for adjudicating constitutional actions. His decisions will have a direct impact on the protection of citizens’ rights, family stability, economic development, and legal certainty in the region.

This achievement is the result of a solid career dedicated to the judiciary, research, and university teaching, and marks the beginning of a new phase focused on an independent, professional judiciary committed to the rule of law.
