Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

Advanced research stays in the United States for Colombian professors with doctoral degrees.

Applicant profile

This call for applications is addressed to Colombian citizens who are researchers and teachers with a PhD or, failing that, at least four years of certified research experience. It offers the opportunity to join a university or research center in the United States for one academic semester to conduct advanced research, strengthen their professional career, and promote academic collaboration between Colombia and the United States.

Description of the exchange

This program offers researchers in Colombia the opportunity to join a university or research center in the United States to conduct advanced research. This program seeks to promote academic collaboration
between Colombian and US researchers, strengthen research capabilities in the country, and consolidate Colombia’s participation in global knowledge networks.

Requirements

To apply for this call, please read the Terms of Reference carefully, where you will find the specific requirements. In addition, the following documents are required:

  • Education: PhD degree or 4 years of research experience.
  • Currently employed in Colombia.
  • Letter of institutional support
  • Project Statement with the relevant academic quotes
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Letter of invitation from the host institution in the United States
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • Study plan (optional for the Teaching and Research category)
  • Citizenship ID card
  • Diplomas

As part of their commitment to the country, those awarded must return to Colombia at the end of their fellowship and remain in the country for at least 2 years to apply and share the knowledge they have acquired. This requirement is in line with the immigration regulations of the U.S. Department of State, according to the visa granted.

Benefits

Those selected will receive comprehensive support for their research fellowship, as specified in the Terms of Reference, which include:

  • Subsistence allowance
  • International airfare
  • Guidance seminar in Colombia
  • Basic limited coverage program for accidents and illnesses (ASPE)
  • Visa costs and proceedings
  • Comprehensive support and monitoring

Note: Any aspect not mentioned within these benefits is not covered by the program.

  • Application call opens: August 13, 2025
  • Application call closes: October 17 at 11:59 a.m.

Results of Call for applications 2024

The publication of the results of the Research and Teaching programs – Cohort 2025, originally scheduled for the end of April, has been rescheduled due to delays in the selection committee processes.

We hope to communicate the results of all the programs involved by the end of May at the latest.
