Collaborative research in Colombia for up to 8 months for U.S. graduate students.

Applicant profile

Addressed to U.S. citizens, including young professionals, recent graduates, artists, and graduate students interested in conducting collaborative research projects in Colombia. Individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and the ability to serve as cultural ambassadors for the United States in our country.

Description of the exchange

Opportunity to delve deeper into areas of academic, artistic, or professional interest, working together with local institutions through collaborative research projects for up to one academic year (8 months) at a higher education institution, research center, public

All of the above is focused on generating knowledge and promoting cultural and academic exchange between both countries, laying the groundwork for future collaborations and interdisciplinary work that addresses the needs and challenges between Colombia and the United States. In addition, it strengthens ties between U.S. researchers and key actors in Colombia, contributing to the international outreach of academic institutions and organizations in the country.

Applications are accepted in all fields of study. However, the Fulbright Commission is particularly interested in receiving applications related to the following key areas, which have been identified as strategic by the Colombian government within the framework of the 2022–2026 National Development Plan:

  • AI, machine learning, technology, and data science.
  • STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics).
  • Land use planning and water management (quality, availability, governance, and infrastructure).
  • Food security and biotechnology (agricultural productivity, transformation of the agricultural sector, efficient supply chains).
  • Entrepreneurship and business (promoting innovation, business development, and sustainable growth).
  • National security.

Requirements

To apply for this call, please read the Terms of Reference carefully, where you will find the specific requirements. In addition, the following documents are required:

  • U.S. citizenship (individuals with dual Colombian-U.S. citizenship are eligible).
  • Residence in the host country permitted during the year prior to the fellowship.
  • Beneficiaries with dual nationality must enter Colombia with a Colombian passport.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree or be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
  • Independently manage their affiliation with a university, institute, or accredited research organization in Colombia.
  • Have a letter of invitation for independent study or research before the application deadline. This letter must be signed by the director of the department, academic unit, institute, or research center that will host the candidate, or by a faculty member or researcher interested in collaborating on the project, with the approval of the department director or dean.
