Description of the exchange

Through the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) program, the Fulbright Commission Colombia offers Colombian higher education institutions (HEIs) the opportunity to receive support from one or more US scholarship recipients to assist with English language teaching at HEIs, according to their needs, for a period of 10 months (between August 2026 and May 2027), for the 2026 term.

The Fulbright ETA program seeks to strengthen English as a second language in Colombian higher education institutions. Likewise, the scholarship allows both the institutions and the participants to benefit from a permanent cultural exchange that enriches their experience during the scholarship period and opens new windows and opportunities for all parties involved.

Requirements

Higher education institutions (HEIs) interested in participating must meet the following requirements:

  • Be duly constituted as a Higher Education Institution in Colombia.
  • Complete the application on the Fulbright Colombia platform.
  • Submit an action plan describing the objectives and strategies for integrating the Fulbright assistant into English language teaching.
  • Appoint a mentor responsible for guiding and accompanying the assistant during their stay.
  • Submit a letter of institutional commitment, signed by an authorized representative, demonstrating institutional support for the program.
  • Once the institution has been notified of its selection, it must comply with the deadline set by the Commission to send the signed agreement together with the supporting legal documents, in accordance with the terms under which it applied for the scholarship, and for the number of Fulbright ETA scholarship recipients requested.

Benefits

Selected organizations and/or Fulbright ETA assistants receive the following benefits:

1. On behalf of the Fulbright Commission Colombia:

How to apply?

To complete the scholarship application process, the Host Institution must follow these steps:

  1. Read the Terms of Reference and annexes carefully.. Read carefully the Annex 1 corresponding to the Operating Protocol for Host Institutions and the commitments they undertake when participating in the Fulbright ETA Program.
  2. Create an account on our Fulbright Colombia Application Platform. Once created, you will receive an email to verify and activate your account (see Annex 2).
  3. Complete the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program Registration Form (for institutions), cohort 2026, in accordance with the provisions set forth in each of the questions on our platform. This form will be enabled once you have completed the Registration Form indicated in the step. 4. Each applicant institution must submit a duly signed institutional commitment letter for the application to be considered, through the Fulbright Colombia Application Portal, in the field of the form provided for uploading this document. Institutions that require or prefer to submit the duly signed Academic Cooperation Agreement at the same time may do so, but this will not be grounds for disqualification when applying. It will be a disqualifying requirement once the institution has been notified of its pre-selection and has a deadline to send the signed agreement along with the supporting legal documents.
