English Teaching Assistant for Higher Education Institutions

Call for Colombian universities to receive English assistants for one academic year.

Who is this program for?

This call is aimed at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Colombia interested in strengthening English language teaching and internationalization through the integration of US citizens as assistants in the process.

By participating, HEIs will be able to:

  • Improve their students’ English language training through interaction with native speakers.
  • Promote cultural exchange in the academic environment.
  • Strengthen English communication skills through innovative teaching strategies.

Teaching assistants have training in pedagogy, linguistics, or related areas and support HEIs in teaching the English language.

Description of the exchange

Through the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program (ETA), the Fulbright Commission in Colombia offers higher education institutions (HEIs) in Colombia the opportunity to host US citizens as English teaching assistants for one academic year (10 months). These assistants support English language teaching at HEIs according to their institutional needs. Institutions selected in this call for applications may not postpone and/or extend their scholarship.

The program aims to strengthen the teaching of English as a foreign language in Colombian HEIs, while promoting ongoing academic and cultural exchange between the institutions and the assistants. This collaboration enhances the learning experience and expands opportunities for both parties.

Requirements

Higher education institutions (HEIs) interested in participating must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be duly constituted as a Higher Education Institution in Colombia.
  2. Complete the institutional registration form on the Fulbright Colombia platform.
  3. Complete the application on the Fulbright Colombia platform.
  4. Submit an action plan describing the objectives and strategies for integrating the Fulbright assistant into English language teaching.
  5. Appoint a mentor responsible for guiding and accompanying the assistant during their stay.
  6. Submit a letter of institutional commitment, signed by an authorized representative, demonstrating institutional support for the program.

Benefits

Selected organizations and/or Fulbright ETA assistants receive the following benefits:

1. Provided by Fulbright Colombia:

  • Selection process for Fulbright assistants in the United States.
  • Visa costs and procedures.
  • Basic Accident and Illness Program with Minimum Coverage (ASPE)
  • Seminars in Colombia (with the support of partner organizations).
  • Comprehensive support and monitoring during the program period.
  • Access to the Fulbright community.

2. Provided by the host institution:

  • Monthly allowance for the Fulbright assistant.
  • Travel costs between the United States and Colombia.

Step by step

Each HEI interested in participating must follow these steps:

1. Review of documents:

  • Carefully read the Terms of Reference and annexes.
  • Consult Annex 1: Operating Protocol for Host Institutions, which details institutional commitments.

    Call for applications opens: TBC.

2. Registration on the application platform:

  • Create an account on the Fulbright Colombia application platform.
  • Verify and activate your account via the email you receive (see Annex 2).
  • If you already have an account, you can use it to apply for the call for applications.

3. Completing forms:

  • Complete the Registration Form for Institutions available on the platform.
  • You will receive a confirmation email after submitting the form.

4. Submitting the application:

  • Complete the Fulbright ETA Program Application on the platform.
  • The application can be completed progressively before the closing date.

5. Evaluation and selection of applications:

  • Applications will be reviewed during the period: TBC.

    Notification to selected institutions: TBC

6. Formalization of the agreement:

  • Selected institutions must sign the agreements before TBC.

7. Assignment of Fulbright ETA assistants:

  • Fulbright Colombia will notify the assignment of assistants within the period of: TBC Start of the Fulbright ETA assistants’ stay: TBC.
