Fulbright Visiting Student Researcher Program

Research stays in the United States lasting between 4 and 10 months for Colombian doctoral students.

Applicant profile

Aimed at Colombian citizens who are active students in doctoral programs in Colombia and who wish to conduct a research stay in the United States. This call offers the opportunity to strengthen their research, expand their academic and professional networks, and contribute to Colombia’s scientific and technological development through international collaboration.

Description of the exchange

This program offers doctoral students in Colombia the opportunity to conduct research fellowship at universities or academic centers in the United States, with the aim of enriching their doctoral projects,
strengthening international knowledge and research networks, and
enhancing academic production in their areas of study.

Requirements

To apply for this call, please read the Terms of Reference carefully, where you will find the specific requirements. In addition, the following documents are required:

  • Ensayo Study/Research Objectives con la citación académica correspondiente
  • Personal Statement essay
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Official transcript of grades issued by the corresponding university
  • Diplomas or degree certificates
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Official English exam results
  • Doctoral studies certificate issued by the university
  • Letter of invitation from the host institution in the United States
  • Citizenship ID card

As part of their commitment to the country, those awarded must return to Colombia at the end of their fellowship and remain in the country for at least 2 years to apply and share the knowledge they have acquired. This requirement is in line with the immigration regulations of the U.S. Department of State, according to the visa granted.

Benefits

Those selected will receive comprehensive support for their research fellowship, as specified in the Terms of Reference, which include:

  • Subsistence allowance
  • Support for university costs
  • International airfare
  • Guidance seminar in Colombia
  • Basic limited coverage program for accidents and illnesses (ASPE)
  • J-1 visa cost and proceedings
  • Comprehensive support and continuous monitoring

Note: Any aspect not mentioned within these benefits is not covered by the program.
