We are now accepting applications for master’s degrees in the United States – Class of 2026

The Fulbright Commission Colombia announces the opening of the J. William Fulbright Program call for applications for Colombian professionals interested in pursuing master’s degrees in the United States beginning in the second semester of 2026.

The Fulbright Program is the result of public diplomacy efforts by U.S. Senator James William Fulbright. He was one of the first to use the term “educational exchange” at the international level, mainly as an alternative to international cooperation, as it promotes understanding between peoples.

The legacy of Senator J. William Fulbright is part of the Binational Agreement between Colombia and the United States signed in 1957. More than 5,671 people in Colombia have benefited from this agreement, and we currently have more than 350 people studying at the best universities in the United States.

This is not just a scholarship, it is access to support and strengthening of your leadership profile, service, and excellence to come to the United States with the possibility of choosing between four universities, the best educational offer for you. Together with our partners in the US, we negotiate tuition waivers—our average waiver rate in recent years is over 80%. In addition, after completing your program, you will be able to join the Fulbright Community, which has recognized professionals from all sectors of the economy at the national level. Cultural, political, innovative, and high-impact leaders. This is a network like no other.

The call for applications will be open from March 2 to May 15, 2026 (11:59 p.m., Colombia time) and will select up to two (2) candidates with academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to the country’s development.

Applying is free of charge, and simply participating will provide learning and benefits for your academic and professional future.

The program prioritizes the following strategic areas, which should be addressed in your application, although we accept all disciplines:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Technology, and Data Science
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics)
  • Land use planning and water management
  • Food security and biotechnology
  • Entrepreneurship, business, and internationalization
  • Security and peace
  • Fight against drugs

Those selected will receive comprehensive support, including university application fees, monthly living expenses, tuition assistance, round-trip airfare, J-1 visa processing and fees, specialized academic support, and ongoing monitoring throughout the program.

As part of their commitment to the country, scholarship recipients must return to Colombia upon completion of their studies and reside there for a cumulative total of at least two (2) years, applying and sharing the knowledge they have acquired.
