Call for 2026-2027

During the 2025–2026 period, as part of “Freedom 250”—the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence—the Symposia by Fulbright program made a significant impact by fostering academic discussions and building knowledge networks around topics such as data science, challenges facing coastal cities, governance and water justice, the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare, and the role of batteries in the transformation of energy systems.

In this context, the Fulbright Commission in Colombia is proud to announce the launch of a new call for proposals for Symposia by Fulbright 2026–2027, an initiative that promotes academic forums open to the public for the exchange of knowledge, the presentation of research findings, and interdisciplinary dialogue on strategic issues related to development, innovation, and binational cooperation.

Call for applications open from March 16 to May 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

Symposia by Fulbright aims to establish itself as a platform that brings together the Fulbright community, academic institutions, researchers, and strategic partners, with the goal of highlighting the impact of the knowledge generated through the program and fostering new opportunities for academic and scientific collaboration. This initiative promotes the dissemination and social adoption of knowledge, while strengthening sustainable academic networks between Colombia and the United States.

The call for proposals for the 2026–2027 period features a renewed approach that prioritizes academic relevance, international outreach, and the creation of institutional synergies aimed at developing solutions to local and global challenges. In this edition, the Fulbright community may submit proposals in two main categories: Events to Showcase Research Results and the Doctoral Research Retreat – Fulbright Summer School, initiatives designed to promote interdisciplinary exchange, strengthen research capabilities, and consolidate academic networks.

Through Symposia by Fulbright, the Commission reaffirms its commitment to promoting knowledge, strengthening academic cooperation, and creating opportunities for dialogue that contribute to Colombia’s development, the strengthening of bilateral relations, and the advancement of solutions to the challenges of the modern world.
