New Group of Colombians Heading to the United States
At an event marked by restraint, academic excellence, and diplomatic warmth, we celebrated “A Night Full of Bright,” the traditional annual scholarship award gala for the Class of 2026. The event took place at the Residence of the U.S. Embassy in Colombia and was presided over by Hugo Guevara, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Bogotá.
The event brought together the Board of Directors of Fulbright Colombia, representatives from the U.S. and Colombian governments, leaders from the education sector, and special guests, who gathered to bid farewell to and wish the greatest success to the new outbound scholars who will represent Colombia’s talent abroad.
Fourteen Leaders Who Connect Colombia and the U.S.
This year, 14 Colombians from various regions of the country are beginning their graduate programs, postdoctoral fellowships, and advanced research projects at some of the most prestigious universities in the United States. Through its geographic and academic diversity, this cohort embodies the promise of decentralization and equity promoted by the Commission.
The Class of 2026 is made up of participants in five flagship programs:
- J. William Fulbright Program: Three Colombian women will pursue master’s degrees.
- Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program: Five Colombians Will Conduct Postdoctoral Research.
- Fulbright Visiting Student Researcher Program: Three Colombian women will conduct doctoral research.
- Fulbright Scholar in Residence Program: One Colombian will conduct postdoctoral research.
- Humphrey Fellowship Program: Two Colombian women will participate in this program focused on the professional development of leaders in public service (for which applications for the 2027 cohort are currently open).
The Value of Bridges and Exchange
In keeping with our mission statement, the evening highlighted the impact of academic mobility as a two-way driver of development. Scholarship recipients not only receive training at world-class institutions, but also return to their home countries to transfer knowledge, strengthen higher education, and have a positive impact on their communities.

With this new group of fellows, Fulbright Colombia reaffirms its commitment to continuing to train the leaders, scientists, and professionals who will build a more prosperous future for both nations.
More than just a scholarship award ceremony, “A Night Full of Bright” will be a celebration of the Fulbright legacy in Colombia and the impact that academic exchange has had over nearly 70 years. It will be an opportunity to recognize those who are now embarking on a path of education in the United States and those who, after that experience, have returned to lead efforts in transformation, innovation, and service in Colombia.
