La Beca Fulbright U.S. Student Researcher permite a jóvenes profesionales, recién graduados(as), artistas y estudiantes de posgrado realizar proyectos de investigación colaborativos por hasta un año académico (10 meses) en una Institución de Educación Superior IES), centro de investigación, institución pública u ONG en Colombia.

Los beneficios de la beca incluyen pasaje aéreo internacional ida y vuelta, estipendio mensual, Plan de Beneficios de Salud por Accidentes y Enfermedades para Intercambios (ASPE), póliza de salud adicional, asistencia en el proceso de solicitud de visa, Seminario de Orientación/Bienvenida al inicio del período de la beca, y seguimiento y asesoría por parte de la Comisión Fulbright durante el tiempo de permanencia en el país.

Esta beca promueve la movilidad académica y la integración de profesionales, jóvenes investigadores(as), artistas y estudiantes de posgrado, al mismo tiempo que sienta las bases para una mayor colaboración académica, y fomenta el trabajo/investigación interdisciplinario que aborde diferentes necesidades y desafíos en Colombia y Estados Unidos. La Beca también crea vínculos entre estudiantes investigadores(as) estadounidenses, y partes interesadas clave en Colombia, incluidas agencias gubernamentales, empresarios(as), ONG, comunidades locales, estudiantes, entre otros, y apoya los procesos de internacionalización en las instituciones de educación superior colombianas y otras instituciones anfitrionas elegibles.

El período de beca debe comenzar en agosto de cada año y concluir antes del 1ro. de junio del año siguiente, de acuerdo con la duración de la beca propuesta. No se permiten cambios o aplazamientos del período de la beca. Las fechas de cada estancia deben especificarse claramente en la solicitud y en la carta de invitación. La duración de la estancia en meses debe ser un número entero. Se recomienda que las personas interesadas, una vez sean seleccionadas, inicien su estadía entre agosto y septiembre, con el fin de facilitar el proceso de viaje a Colombia. La fecha de finalización será la elección de cada persona becaria estadounidense.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who have not had substantial recent experience in the country to which they are applying. Exceptions will be made only in rare and compelling circumstances.

On average, no more than eight (8) U.S. Student researcher grants are awarded by the Fulbright Commission in Colombia every year. The following academic profiles are eligible for this award: recent graduates, Master’s students, Ph.D. students, and artists. Graduate students conducting thesis/dissertation research are strongly preferred. Applications from all fields of study are welcome. However, proposals related to the following fields will be prioritized:

  1. Biotechnology, Bioeconomy, and Environment.
  2. Basic and Space Sciences.
  3. Life and Health Sciences.
  4. Social Sciences, Human Development, and Equity.
  5. Sustainable Energy.
  6. Creative and Cultural Industries.
  7. Ocean and Hydrological Resources.
  8. Converging Technologies (nano-, info-, and cogno- industries 4.0.).
  9. Climate Change and Sustainability.
  10. Entrepreneurship.
  11. Education.
  12. Public Administration.
  13. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
  14. Public and Global Health.
  15. Human Development.
  16. Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.

Projects that involve work with communities outside the host institution, and/or addressing topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion will be particularly welcome.


Eligibility

  • U.S. citizens holding dual U.S.-Colombian citizenship are eligible.
  • Residency in the host country is permitted in the year prior to the grant.
  • Grantees with dual U.S. and Colombian nationality are required by Colombian law to enter the country on a Colombian passport.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree, or be currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program.
  • Arrange your own placement at an accredited Colombian university, institute or research organization.
  • Proficient in spoken and written Spanish.
  • Letter required for independent study or research by deadline. Applicants must submit an invitation letter signed by the director of the department, academic unit, institute, or research center interested in hosting the candidate, or alternatively, signed by the professor or researcher who is interested in working with the candidate in the proposed project, provided that this invitation has been approved by the department director or dean.
  • Special Application Instructions: as part of their project proposal, candidates must specify the academic products, contributions, or outcomes that they expect to achieve during their grant period. All grantees, regardless of their award activity, are expected to lead at least one public conference related to their project or field of expertise during their grant period.
